About the role

 

The Merchandise Financial Planning (MFP) Manager is a strategic leader responsible for driving the financial planning and inventory strategy across all channels within the cluster.

 

This role owns the end-to-end MFP and Open-to-Buy (OTB) processes, translating global merchandising strategies into actionable, locally relevant financial plans that optimize inventory, drive profitable growth, and enable agile decision-making.

 

As a key business partner to cluster and global leadership, this role leads the development and execution of financial strategies that support commercial objectives, promotional planning, and investment decisions. The individual will be a thought leader, capable of influencing cross-functional stakeholders and guiding a high-performing team to deliver best-in-class financial planning outcomes.

Key areas of responsibilities:

 

Strategic Merchandise Financial Planning

  • Own and lead the merchandise financial planning strategy across all channels for the cluster
  • Translate global merchandising strategies into locally tailored financial objectives, ensuring alignment with commercial goals
  • Identify growth opportunities and margin enhancement levers through data-driven insights and market intelligence
  • Lead monthly and quarterly reviews with Global MFP to ensure alignment and visibility of cluster performance and strategy

 

OTB & Investment Strategy

  • Oversee the development, execution, and governance of Open-to-Buy plans, ensuring accuracy, agility, and alignment with sales forecasts
  • Lead the cluster’s Global Buy Review process, shaping investment strategies based on local insights, performance trends, and strategic priorities
  • Partner with senior finance and commercial leaders to set stock and delivery targets that support business growth and inventory efficiency
  • Build relationship with Wholesale Partners to optimise forward planning across all categories

 

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Drive the bottom-up merchandise financial forecast process, ensuring integration into cluster budgeting cycles
  • Collaborate with finance and merchandising leadership to align financial targets with strategic initiatives and market dynamics

 

Promotional Strategy

  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of promotional activities, ensuring alignment with financial goals and inventory health
  • Partner with cluster GMs and global teams to optimize pricing strategies and promotional

effectiveness

  • Provide post-event analysis and insights to inform future planning and best practice sharing

 

Performance & Inventory Optimization

  • Monitor and analyze financial performance across channels, recommending strategic actions to achieve sales, margin, and inventory KPIs
  • Lead weekly trade meetings with inventory health reviews and develop forward-looking strategies to optimize stock turn and reduce risk

 

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all MFP and OTB matters within the cluster and global, representing the function in senior leadership forums
  • Foster strong collaboration with global merchandising, cluster finance, sales, and inventory teams to ensure cohesive execution of strategy
  • Mentor and develop the MFP team, building capability and driving continuous improvement in planning processes and tools

 

Ideal profile

  • 6 - 8 years’ experience in working within Merchandising and/or Merchandising planning in a multi/omni channel company
  • 2+ years of experience leading merchandising team functions
  • Experience and passion for the Asia cluster retail market and a deep understanding of the regional seasonality, cultural nuances and the customer
  • Proactive in planning to achieve targets and objectives which deliver profitable outcomes
  • University degree in Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • Strong communication skills with business stakeholders
  • Flexible and adaptive to changing priorities
  • Delivery focused with excellent attention to detail and strong drive to resolve issues
  • Strong team working and collaboration skills
  • Respects individual’s views and positively contributes to a learning environment in which individuals are supported and encouraged to excel
