What to expect from the role

This role reports into the Commercial Finance Manager and business partners with Retail director and retail operations team. You will be assisting them to drive Retail business performance through accurate, reliable and insightful financial reporting and analysis, to aid commercial decision making with full support of a commercial finance analyst. Core finance routines include month end, forecasting and annual budgeting processes, flagging risks and opportunities and extracting accurate data to provide meaningful analysis.

 

Retail

  • Business partner with Sales director and wider sales team to provide commercial finance insights and support
  • Monitor and track OPEX spend including employee and property expenses which are substantial cost lines within the P&L
  • Provide insightful, KPI focused monthly reporting to aid in commercial decision making for the owned and operated network (labour productivity, promo mix etc)
  • Review weekly store KPI performance (footfall, ASP, UPT etc) and understand fluctuations in revenue against our Latest Estimate
  • Analyse store level P&Ls and host review meetings with sales team to provide actionable insights
  • Identify risks & opportunities in top line revenue and OPEX
  • Monitor Wholesale partners Sell-in revenue forecast
  • Manage and develop the commercial finance analyst focusing on both technical and soft skills

Budget/forecasting

  • Work closely with the retail, property, FP&A and global teams to produce revenue and OPEX forecasts within agreed timelines
  • Review and challenge retail sales, orders and promo KPI assumptions vs prior year/forecasts
  • Variance analysis and commentary to ensure differences are explainable
  • Take initiative to continuously improve and streamline the planning process

 

Month End Close

  • Prepare month end journals for the Shared Service Centre (SSC)
  • Investigate and challenge material cost variances with SSC before ledgers close
  • Conduct month end reviews with FP&A manager and finance director (Calling out key messages/ drivers, variance analysis and implications to forecast/ budget)

 

What we are looking for

  • Qualified (CIMA/ACCA)
  • Previous experience in a commercial finance environment, preferably within Retail (multi-site experience would be highly advantageous)
  • Strong excel skills (use of financial models, vlookup, sumifs, pivot tables etc)
  • P&L management experience highly advantageous
  • Solid analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to challenge when required and work well within all levels of the organisation
  • Must be able to work to strict timelines
  • Excellent at multiple stakeholder management
  • Must be solution focused
  • The candidate must thrive in a dynamic, changing and fast-paced environment
