Specialist, Materials Engineer (Component)
The Materials Engineer (Component) plays a pivotal role in bridging creative product ambition with scientific rigor and strategic cross-functional collaboration. This role is responsible for discovering, developing, qualifying, and industrializing next-generation metal materials that elevate product excellence, durability, and sustainability.
By combining deep metallurgical expertise with innovation mindset, the engineer translates design vision into technically robust and scalable material solutions. The position ensures that new alloys and surface technologies meet performance, regulatory, manufacturability, and cost requirements while strengthening competitive differentiation and intellectual property position.
This role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about unlocking material potential, advancing metallurgical science, and directly influencing product innovation through data-driven experimentation and industrial application.
We love that you will…..
- Cross-Functional Material Integration : Collaborate closely with Creative Sourcing, Strategic Partners, and I&PD teams to conceptualize and integrate innovative metal materials into early-stage product design. Translate creative intent into technically viable, manufacturable, and performance-validated material solutions.
- Advanced Materials Research & Technology Scouting : Lead structured exploration of mid- to long-term material innovations, with emphasis on Metal chains and mechanical systems , Precious and non-precious alloy systems , Surface engineering technologies (electroplating, PVD, hybrid coatings). Conduct benchmarking, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to identify scalable innovation opportunities aligned with product strategy.
- Quality Alignment & Validation Governance : Partner with Quality Assurance and testing laboratories to define material validation roadmaps. Develop structured test plans (mechanical, corrosion, tarnish, adhesion, wear) Execute qualification protocols. Establish clear performance. Ensure new materials meet target product quality standards prior to pipeline integration.
- PLM Data Governance & Accuracy : Maintain precise and up-to-date material master data within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, including. Material specifications , Technical data sheets , Compliance documentation , Revision control. Ensure transparency, traceability, and cross-functional alignment across development stages.
- End-to-End Material Lifecycle Management : Own material development from ideation through industrialization, coordinating across internal departments and external suppliers. Ensure technical feasibility , Cost-performance optimization , Risk mitigation and smooth transition between project phases (concept → validation → pilot → production)
- Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement : Build and sustain strong working relationships with cross-functional product teams. Shared service units and global material suppliers, Drive accountability, structured communication, and performance alignment across all material-related initiatives.
- Material Library Development & Knowledge Infrastructure : Design and maintain a structured, accessible physical and digital material library that supports Innovation research , Rapid concept validation , Historical reference and benchmarking , Knowledge retention across teams and Implement categorization, labeling, and traceability standards.
- Project Governance & Strategic Support : Support the Senior Manager in Innovation roadmap planning, Milestone tracking and deliverable governance, Performance KPI monitoring, Risk identification and mitigation and ensure disciplined project execution and timely delivery of innovation objectives.
