Senior AI-Native Data Platform Engineer

Join Pandora to work on one of the most compelling data platform challenges of 2026 - the Data Platform that sits underneath the world's largest jewellery company. The platform serves teams across consumer engagement, retail, supply chain, finance, merchandising, and manufacturing, operating across more than 100 countries and 6,800 points of sale. What it enables sets the ceiling on what the rest of the business can do with data.

You'll join the team that owns the governance solution and metadata layer of the platforms: Unity Catalog, Confluent Schema Registry, and OpenMetadata. Our mission is simple to state and hard to do: every published dataset is owned, described, and compliant by default, at scale. We don't write policy documents; we turn policy into automated solutions. And we build that the way the best engineering teams will build everything in 2026: AI-native.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and evolve our Data Governance APIs: the programmatic interface through which the enterprise registers, discovers, and validates data products across Unity Catalog, Schema Registry, and OpenMetadata.
  • Build AI-enhanced governance automation: using LLMs to classify data, suggest descriptions, detect schema drift, flag compliance gaps, and auto-generate documentation at scale with the eval harnesses that prove it works.
  • Design and implement the access management model for data in the platform, mapping business-domain ownership and apply patterns to Unity Catalog via groups, roles and column-level controls.
  • Operate and automate Unity Catalog and Schema Registry configuration at scale: Terraform, CI/CD-integrated compatibility checks, and permission drift detection.
  • Maintain and extend our OpenMetadata based data catalog, including custom ingestion pipelines, metadata consistency enforcement, and API integrations.
  • Instrument governance adoption metrics e.g compliance rates, ownership coverage, schema quality trends to measure success.

What you bring:

  • A demonstrably AI-native way of working: you use coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a daily multiplier, not a novelty and you can show how you structure prompts, context, and repos so agents produce production-quality output.
  • A testing and evaluation mindset: you treat evals for LLM-powered features with the same rigour as unit tests for deterministic code.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Unity Catalog: metastore architecture, fine-grained access control, and programmatic management via CLI, API, and Terraform.
  • Experience with Confluent Schema Registry, including schema evolution and compatibility rules.
  • A strong software engineering foundation: API design, testing, CI/CD, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Proficiency in Python, shell scripting, and Terraform.
  • Strong communicator to tech and business audience

Nice to have:

  • Experience with OpenMetadata or comparable data catalogs (DataHub, Atlan, Collibra), including their ingestion frameworks and API layers.
  • Experience shipping LLM-powered tooling to production including prompt pipelines, eval frameworks, or agent orchestration.
  • Familiarity with Delta Lake internals and how they interact with Unity Catalog governance.
