Join Pandora to help lead one of the most compelling data engineering challenges in 2026: the Data & AI Platform that sits underneath the world's largest jewellery company. The platform serves teams across consumer engagement, retail supply chain, finance, merchandising, and manufacturing, operating across more than 100 countries and 6,800 points of sale. What it enables sets the ceiling on what the rest of the business can do with data.
As Lead Engineer for the Data Platform, you are the most senior IC on the team. You set the technical direction for the platform alongside the Engineering Manager, unblock the engineers around you, and personally lead the highest-leverage, highest-risk initiatives end to end — from problem framing through rollout and adoption.
Key responsibilities:
- Set the technical direction for the Data & AI Platform; own the architecture across Databricks, the Microsoft Fabric and Power BI platform layer.
- Lead the highest-leverage, highest-risk initiatives end to end — from problem framing through delivery, rollout, and adoption across product teams.
- Raise the engineering bar across the team through design reviews, code reviews, incident reviews, and patterns that scale beyond a single service.
- Partner with the Engineering Manager on roadmap, staffing, and the technical trade-offs behind them.
- Represent the platform in Pandora-wide architecture and governance forums; influence peer teams so the platform is adopted, not imposed.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers; multiply the impact of the people around you rather than bottlenecking on yourself.
- Drive the patterns for batch, streaming, and ML/AI workloads, and for data contracts and shared schemas that make interoperability across domains the default.
What you bring:
- Track record leading the technical direction of a production data or developer platform at scale, with measurable adoption across many product teams.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems design, polyglot engineering, and infrastructure-as-code at scale. Strong coding skills in Python; comfort in at least one additional language.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, and Spark (or equivalent lakehouse technologies), and working knowledge of the Microsoft data ecosystem — Fabric, Power BI, Azure.
- Deep Terraform and CI/CD experience, including modules, workspaces, and policy-as-code (OPA, Sentinel, or equivalent) across multi-account patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to drive adoption of platform capabilities.
Nice to have:
- Experience building internal developer platforms, platform SDKs, or golden paths that product teams consume at scale.
- Familiarity with FinOps practices — cost modelling, chargeback and showback, optimising compute, storage, and egress at scale.
- Background in retail, consumer products, manufacturing, or another multi-region, multi-domain enterprise.
